How old do I need to be to get a tattoo?
You must be at least 18 years of age. It is against California State law to tattoo anyone under the age of 18, even with parental consent or ID.
What do I do if I'm running late or need to reschedule?
If you're running late, please notify your artist as soon as possible so they can adjust their schedule accordingly and determine whether they are still able to accommodate your appointment.
If you need to cancel or reschedule, please provide your artist with at least 48 hours' notice. Please note that all cancellations and rescheduled appointments result in the forfeiture of the deposit, with no exceptions.
How should I prep for my tattoo appointment?
First and foremost, make sure to bring a government issued or state I.D. as you will need to fill out a waiver before your session begins. A valid driver’s license, passport, military I.D. or state I.D will also work.
Wear clothing that allows easy access to the area being tattooed (and that you don't mind getting ink on). No alcohol or blood thinners (including aspirin) for at least 24 hours before your appointment. Make sure you're well rested and have eaten/hydrated beforehand.
What are your payment methods?
Cash, Venmo, Zelle, and Chase Quick Pay.
We currently do not accept credit cards or Apple Pay.
Do I need to schedule an appointment or do you take walk-ins?
Appointments are recommended for all custom tattoos and are required for larger or more detailed pieces. Due to high demand, we recommend booking 3–7 days in advance, and we are unable to accommodate same-day or next-day appointments. All appointments require a deposit to secure your date.
To book, simply email modoinktattoo@gmail.com with your tattoo idea. If your design requires a consultation, we'll help you schedule one with the appropriate artist. If it's a simpler piece, your artist will contact you directly to arrange your appointment.
We also welcome walk-ins for smaller tattoos (generally up to 5 inches with minimal detail). Walk-ins are available Monday–Sunday, 12:00 PM–7:00 PM, on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to artist availability.
How much will my tattoo be?
Our shop minimum is $100. However, the cost of your tattoo varies on the size, the complexity of the design, and where you decide to place it. Each artist in our shop has different rates.
What if I need a touch-up?
We will happily provide you with one free touch-up appointment. Keep in mind that some restrictions may apply. We don’t offer free touch-ups for finger and foot tattoos. If you have any questions about our touch-up restrictions, you can email your artist directly.
What's your deposit policy?
A deposit is required to lock in your appointment timeslot. The amount will vary per artist and per piece. Deposits are non-refundable and non-transferable. We do not accept gift card or certificates as deposits. The amount of the deposit will be taken off the final price of the tattoo. If you are scheduled for multiple sessions, your deposit will be taken off the final price on the final session.
Can I bring a friend to my appointment?
Yes, you're welcome to bring company!
Is it going to hurt?
Pain is relative, and everyone's tolerance is different. What feels uncomfortable to one person may be completely manageable for another.
Your physical condition can also make a difference. If you're tired, dehydrated, hungover, or feeling sick, getting tattooed may be more uncomfortable. We recommend getting a good night's sleep, staying hydrated, and eating a substantial meal before your appointment to help ensure the best possible experience.
The location of the tattoo also plays a significant role. Areas with more muscle and padding—such as the outer arms—are generally less sensitive, while areas with thinner skin, more nerve endings, or bones closer to the surface—such as the inner wrist, collarbone, fingers, ribs, ankles, and feet—tend to be more sensitive.
That said, most clients find the discomfort to be very manageable, and our artists will work with you throughout the session to keep you as comfortable as possible.
